EL GREMIO
On a cold day in August 2008, in the Chilean city of Puerto Varas, a group of friends attracted to Latin music joined forces and brought to life a band they christened, El Gremio, or “The Guild”. The band’s mission was to spread their love of salsa music across Southern Chile.

In time El Gremio began incorporating the sounds of pop, cumbia, funk, and jazz into their music giving the band a wholly original style with all lyrics and music written and composed by band members and reflecting their life and identity as Southern musicians.

More than anything, El Gremio is a party! A party where the heat is generated by the warmth and hospitality of a southern people who embrace happiness through song -- and in the south of Chile, the rhythms at the heart of El Gremio’s songs beat louder than ever.

El Gremio performs concerts, festivals and at countless parties in cities such as Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, Llanquihue, Los Muermos, Calbuco, Hualaihué and on the Island of Chiloé. Whether live or on air, audiences are always moved by El Gremio’s infectious energy.

El Gremio is in the process of producing its first CD, Abriendo Puertas (Opening Doors) due for release in February 2012 while the band is still in Canada! Some tracks on this CD have a distinctive Latin feel and the rhythms are guaranteed to spread the excitement and party atmosphere that El Gremio is famous for. Others are steeped in the familiar sounds of Chilean folk music but with a unique twist that only El Gremio can provide.
