FunkaBelly is a one of a kind Global Grooves dance party and cutting edge Bellydance cabaret. Dance yourself ecstatic to Toronto's only live Gypsy Funk Band, Nomadica trading sets with DJ Medicineman. Make space on the dance floor to experience some of the best bellydance artists in Toronto and beyond, bringing their deepest magic to an inspiring and enthusiastic crowd. Each FunkaBelly has a theme that inspires performers and celebrants alike, creating a atmosphere that is electric and refreshingly eccentric.Everyone welcome for a beginner bellydance lesson at 8:30pm. $15 at the door. A great night for dancing, for stagettes, and birthday parties.

Guest dancers Danielle Davies & Heather LaBonte (modern bellydance) and Contemporary Asian dance master Xing Bang Fu will burn up the dance floor, along with FunkaBelly All-Stars, Samara, Saba, Anjelica and Victoria.

Nomadica
Nomadica is an eclectic world music band led by trumpeter David Buchbinder and vocalist/percussionist Roula Said. The band is comprised of a rotating collective of some of the city’s top players, who join together to create a powerful, soulful and energetic dish of one-of-a-kind funk. Serving up a melange of styles from eastern Europe, with tastes from Roma, Gypsy, Turkish and Arabic influence, Nomadica is sure to rouse the spirits of listeners and dancers alike. The band was conceived as a live musical addition to the Funkabelly Global Grooves Dance Party and has built its following over the past year as the resident Funkabelly band. Now maturing as a collective and coming in to their second year, Nomadica never fails to bring the audience to their feet and is sure to deliver a night to remember

Following an extended teaching journey in Europe, Richard Martin aka Medicineman staked his tent in the studio of CIUT radio in the heart of downtown Toronto. For the past 10 years, he's hosted NO MAN'S LAND and has earned a reputation among a loyal audience for unique, groove-driven explorations into the evolution of world music & global electronica. Indo-Arabic dub to Afro-Latin funk, sets flow seamlessly from soothing ancient rhythms and textures through rippling primitive & progressive beats, always challenging cultural boundaries & musical traditions. This genre-bending mixology has generated a massive throng of listeners locally and internationally + continues to win fans over the airwaves and on dancefloors. NO MAN'S LAND is considered by many to be the top world fusion radio show in Canada.
