Lula Music and Arts Centre is proud to present LULAWORLD 2010 – celebrating global music from around the corner and around the world.
From May 5th to 30th, artists from throughout the Canada are joined by international musicians to showcase the extraordinary diversity and calibre of Canadian global music – encouraging a cross pollination between musical cultures and revealing that when it comes to global music, Toronto is one of the very best places in the world to be!
In addition to presentations by artists with roots in the musical traditions of Portugal, Sweden, Jamaica, Peru and Italy, this year’s LULAWORLD festival features a special concert series highlighting the contributions made to Canadian musical culture by Latin America. The series, with support from Celebrate Ontario and the Ontario Arts Council includes music from Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Cuba, Chile and Colombia.
LULAWORLD 2010 provides an opportunity for world artists from across the country to connect and work together – often for the first time. Our opening night concert assembles latin jazz musicians from three provinces with musical heritage from four countries. On May 16th, we will host the first meeting in Canada of Canadian Mexican musicians working in the Son Jarocho tradition. On May 20th, Colombian-born Roberto Lopez from Montreal shares an evening with Toronto-based Colombian Group, Soneros Del Caribe. Later in the month, Dominic Mancuso shares stage with Peruvian Patricia Cano from Sudbury and Brazilian guitarist Carlos Bernardo visiting from Brazil. And during the last week of the festival, Brazilian musicians from Ottawa connect with players from Toronto’s vibrant Brazilian music scene.
Lula Music and Arts Centre would like to thank those individuals and organizations that have made LULAWORLD 2010 possible.
